SENSOR - How to Connect to OSI Alarm System: How to add (or re-add) sensors with Smart Life App

8 min. readlast update: 11.28.2023

These settings are for the OSI Alarm System (with Touch Screen Display). For the OSI Mini Alarm System please follow instructions here

We Recommend adding sensors using the Smart Life App as it is much easier. If you are adding or re-adding sensors, add the PIR motion sensor last. First turn off the PIR motion sensor(s) (the on/off switch is at the back) The reason for this is PIR motion sensors give off a constant signal and the chance of triggering a PIR motion sensor while adding a door/window sensor could interfere with the syncing/pairing process of the door/window sensor.

Add the PIR sensor(s) last and remember to turn the PIR motion sensor ON, after you have completed adding the door/window sensors. If you are adding or re-adding more than one PIR motion sensor, after adding the first PIR sensor, turn off the PIR sensor and then turn on the second PIR sensor and add it to the alarm panel. When you have finished adding the PIR sensors, you can then turn them ON. This will ensure there are no false triggers during the syncing/pairing process.

Adding Door Sensors:

Turn the switch on the door sensor to the on position

  1. Open smart life app
  2. Open the OSI Alarm Device
  3. Press Accessories
  4. Press the Detector tab
  5. VERY IMPORTANT - Please ensure both sides of the sensor parts are together and the arrows > on the sides of the sensors are together, parallel with each . If they are not together before you press the "+" then the sensor will end up having OPEN DOOR WARNING issues such as appearing frozen and not going away. If the door  sensor is already installed then shut the door so that the sensor and magnet are in the closed position (together)
  6. Press the "+" Icon at the top right corner
  7. When the app starts counting during synchronization, pull both sides of the sensors apart or if the sensor is installed on the door or window just open the door/window during synchronization.
  8. The app will say Device add success, then press confirm.
  9. Under Accessories and Detector tab you will see the device has been added (Detector #) . Ignore any that say undeletable..
  10. Select the sensor (Detector#), then select Sub device name to rename the Door sensor to (front door, back door, basement window etc...what ever you'd like to name it). What ever name you give the sensor is how it will show up when you get notifications on the smart life app so that you know exactly which sensor has triggered the alarm or has low battery etc. Then press Save.
  11. Change DEVICE TYPE to DOOR ALARM if using the sensor on a door. If using the sensor on a window, set device type to WINDOW ALARM. Then press confirm.
  12. Change Zone Attribute to Stay Arm Active (this is the recommended setting for most Door/Window Sensors). * if installing on a window which you will want to open in the middle of the night for cool air, then you will want to set the sensor to Out Arm Active instead so that it will not be active when you arm the system when you are going to bed (this is the setting used for most PIR Motion Sensors as well). Then select confirm.
  13. At the top right, press Save (to save all the settings), Then press Confirm.

Add New PIR Sensors:

Turn switch on the back of MOTION SENSOR to the 'On' position (door sensors do not need to be turned off, however other PIR motion sensors need to be turned off until you have completed the syncing process.

  1. Open smart life app
  2. Open the OSI Alarm Device
  3. Press Accessories
  4. Press the Detector tab
  5. Press the "+" Icon at the top right corner
  6. Make a movement in from of the Motion Sensor ( The red led will come on for second)
  7. It should add immediately and say "Device add success" Then press confirm.
  8. Under Accessories and Detector tab you will see the device has been added (Detector #) Ignore any that say undeletable.. Select the sensor, then select Sub device name and rename the Motion sensor (Living room Motion, Kitchen motion, etc...what ever you'd like to name it). What ever name you give the sensor is how it will show up when you get notifications on the smart life app so that you know exactly which sensor triggered the alarm or has low battery etc. Then press Save.
  9. Change DEVICE TYPE to Living Room Alarm (Typically most people just use this setting for all the motion sensors) Then select Confirm.
  10. Change Zone Attribute to OUT Arm Active (this is a recommended setting for most Motion Sensors). Then select Confirm
  11. Press Save (to save all the settings), Then select Confirm.

Description of different Zone Attributes (Mode) Settings:

Stay Arm Active: This is the Zone Attribute setting *recommended for Window/Door Sensors*. This setting will make the sensor ACTIVE when you arm the system both by pressing *"Away"* (when you leave the house) or *"Home"* (such as when you are going to bed).

Stay Arm Active (without Delay): Same as above except the sensor will trigger immediately and sound the alarm siren without any delay. You would want to use this setting if you want the siren to go off immediately giving no time for anyone to turn off the alarm.

Out Arm Active: This is the Zone Attribute setting *recommended for PIR Motion Sensors*. This setting will make the sensor ACTIVE only when you arm the system by pressing *"Away"* (when you leave the house). The sensor will NOT be active when you arm the system by pressing "Home". This allows you to walk freely in the middle of the night to get a glass of water without triggering the motion sensors for example.

Out Arm Active (without Delay): Same as above except the sensor will trigger immediately and sound the alarm siren without any delay. You would want to use this setting if you want the siren to go off immediately giving no time for anyone to turn off the alarm.

24 Hours Active: This setting is used for when you want a specific sensor to be active at all times. the Alarm does not need to be armed to be active as it will ALWAYS be active.

Doorbell: Doorbell mode is the setting you use when you want the Door / Window Sensor to act as a doorbell, so it would make a doorbell sound whenever the door is opened. This feature is great for businesses where you want a pleasant doorbell sound whenever a customer walks in. This is especially useful if you are running a small business such as a convenient store and an employee is working alone, where they may be in the back room or stocking behind shelves and cannot see the entrance.  This may also be a great feature for parents who want if their child has opened the door.

Connecting Wireless Strobe Siren (if you have one) from Alarm Panel

Reset and Pair instructions have now been changed for new OSI Wireless Strobe Sirens purchased April 2022 and later. For those customers who purchased these sirens (whether separately or with the 14 Piece Kit), the instructions are still the same. This refers to when you press and hold the "Set" Button until you hear the following beeps to either Reset or Pair the Wireless strobe siren to the OSI Wifi Alarm System.

Important: Disconnect the wireless siren from the power adapter and turn the siren to the 'On' position.

Purchased April 2022 and Later - There is a 2-3 second delay between each beep

  • 4 Beeps to Reset the Siren - After resetting turn the siren 'Off' then 'On'
  • 3 Beeps to pair (learn) the Siren
  • Please see video below. When you have finished adding the siren to the alarm panel, ensure that you plug the siren back into the power adapter. When it is plugged into the power adapter the on/off button is disabled.

Purchased FEB 2022 and Earlier - The beeps are one right after the other, faster.

  • 3 Beeps to Reset the Siren - After resetting turn the siren 'Off' then 'On'
  • 2 Beeps to pair (learn) the Siren
  • Please see video below. When you have finished adding the siren to the alarm panel, ensure that you plug the siren back into the power adapter. When it is plugged into the power adapter the on/off button is disabled.
