Gen 2 Stuck on “Connecting to Router” in the Smart Life App

If your OSI Gen 2 Alarm Panel gets stuck on “Connecting to router” while being added to Smart Life, follow the troubleshooting steps below in order.

This message means setup has not confirmed the router connection. Possible causes include Wi-Fi settings, a temporary phone or app issue, or a panel issue. The message alone does not identify the exact cause.

1. Check Your Wi-Fi and Phone Settings

Before retrying:

  • Connect your phone to your home’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

  • Confirm that the Wi-Fi password entered in Smart Life is correct. Passwords are case-sensitive.

  • Move the Gen 2 near the router during setup.

  • Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on your phone.

  • Confirm your home internet connection is working.

If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name, consult your router’s instructions for connecting smart devices to its 2.4 GHz network.

2. Restart Your Phone and Retry

  1. Close Smart Life.

  2. Restart your phone.

  3. Confirm that your phone is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that Bluetooth is enabled.

  4. Open Smart Life.

  5. Place the Gen 2 into pairing mode and retry using the standard instructions:

Gen 2 Offline in Smart Life: Troubleshooting and Reconnection Instructions

Restarting your phone may clear a temporary app or wireless connection issue.

3. Restart Your Router and Retry

If restarting your phone does not resolve the issue:

  1. Unplug your router’s power cable.

  2. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect it.

  3. Wait until Wi-Fi and internet service are fully restored. This may take several minutes.

  4. Confirm your phone has reconnected to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, with Bluetooth enabled.

  5. Open Smart Life, place the Gen 2 into pairing mode, and retry setup.

Do not press the router’s Reset button. Restarting means disconnecting and reconnecting power. A factory reset may erase your router’s settings.

Restarting the router may clear a temporary network issue. Your internet connection will be unavailable during the restart.

4. If Pairing Still Fails, Consider Recover

Recover is a factory reset—not a normal restart. Use it only after trying the steps above.

Before proceeding, record your custom settings and review:

What Does the Recover Option Do on the Gen 2 Alarm Panel?

Recover resets settings including:

  • Custom user and system security codes.

  • Arm and alarm delays.

  • Audio and display preferences.

  • Stored phone numbers.

  • Professional monitoring settings.

You can choose to retain paired accessories, but their advanced settings reset to defaults.

If you use professional monitoring, contact your monitoring provider before proceeding so the monitoring configuration can be restored and tested afterward.

How to Perform Recover

  1. On the Gen 2 panel, select Settings.

  2. Enter your System Code.

  3. Select Recover, then select Recover again.

  4. Choose to keep your accessories if you want to retain your paired sensors.

  5. Allow the panel to restart.

  6. Select your language and complete or skip the tutorial as appropriate.

  7. Restart your phone if you have not already done so.

  8. Follow the standard Smart Life pairing instructions linked in Step 2.

5. Check Your Settings After Reconnecting

Once the panel connects successfully:

  • Replace the default user and system security codes with your preferred codes.

  • Restore your alarm delays and other customized settings.

  • Review accessory settings and test sensor operation.

  • If professionally monitored, have your provider verify the monitoring configuration and communication.

Why Can These Steps Help?

Restarting the phone or router may clear temporary connection problems. Recover restores the panel’s settings and restarts it, which may resolve a panel configuration or temporary operating issue.

In one reported case, pairing succeeded after the customer performed Recover and restarted their phone. Because both actions were taken, it is not possible to determine which resolved the issue. Results may vary depending on the cause.

Still Unable to Connect?

Contact OSI Support and provide:

  • Your Gen 2 model and firmware version.

  • Your phone model and operating system version.

  • Your router’s make and model.

  • A screenshot of the step where setup stops.

  • The troubleshooting steps you have already tried.
