SENSOR - How to Connect to OSI MINI Alarm System: How to add (or re-add) sensors with Smart Life App

6 min. readlast update: 10.17.2023

These settings are for the OSI MINI Alarm System (with Hub/No Display). For the OSI Alarm System (with touch screen display) please follow instructions here

We Recommend adding sensors using the Smart Life App as it is much easier . If you are adding sensors for the first time, add the PIR motion sensor last. If you are adding additional door or window sensres, ensure to turn off the pir motion sensor (the on/off switch is at the back) The reason for this is PIR motion sensors give off a constant signal. Remember to turn the motion sennsor all ON once you have completed adding all sensors. Adding Door Sensors:Turn the switch on the door sensor to the on position

  1. Open smart life app
  2. Open the OSI Alarm Device
  3. Press Accessories
  4. Press the detector tab
  5. VERY IMPORTANT - Please ensure both sides of the sensor are together at this point. If they are not together before you press the "+" then the sensor will end up havint OPEN DOOR WARNING issues such as appearing frozen and not going away. If the door  sensor IS already installed then shut the door so that the sensor and magnet are in the closed position (together)
  6. Press the "+" Icon at the top right corner
  7. When the app starts counting during synchronization, pull both sides of the sensors apart or if the sensor is installed on the door or window just open the door/window during synchronization.
  8. The app will say Device add success, then press confirm.
  9. Under accessories you will see the evice ha been added. Select it the select Sub device name to rename the Door sensor (front door, back door, basement window etc...what ever you'd like to name it). What ever name you give the sensor is how it will show up when you get notifications on the smart life app so that you know exactly which sensor triggered the alarm or has low battery etc.
  10. Change DEVICE TYPE to DOOR ALARM if using the sensor on a door. If using the sensor on a window, set device type to WINDOW ALARM
  11. Change Zone Attribute to OUT Arm Active (this is the recommended setting for most Door/Window Sensors). * if installing on a window which you will want to open in the middle of the night for cool air, then you will want to set the sensor to STAY Arm Active instead so that it will not be active when you arm the system when you are going to bed (this is the setting used for most PIR Motion Sensors as well).
  12. Press Save (to save all the settings)

Add New PIR Sensors:Turn switch on the back of MOTION SENSOR to the on position (door sensors do not need to be turned off, however other PIR motion sensors need to be turned off until you have completed the syncing process.

  1. Open smart life app
  2. Open the OSI Alarm Device
  3. Press Accessories
  4. Press the detector tab
  5. Press the "+" Icon at the top right corner
  6. It should add immediately and say "added successfully"
  7. Rename the Motion sensor (Living room Motion, Kitchen motion, etc...what ever you'd like to name it). What ever name you give the sensor is how it will show up when you get notifications on the smart life app so that you know exactly which sensor triggered the alarm or has low battery etc.
  8. Change DEVICE TYPE to Living Room (Typically most people just use this setting for all the motion sensors)
  9. Change Zone Attribute to STAY Arm Active (this is the recommended setting for most Motion Sensors).
  10. Press Save (to save all the settings)

Description of different Zone Attributes (Mode) Settings: Out Arm Active: This is the Zone Attribute setting *recommended for Window/Door Sensors*. This setting will make the sensor ACTIVE when you arm the system both by pressing *"Away"* (when you leave the house) or *"Home"* (such as when you are going to bed).Out Arm Active (without Delay): Same as above except the sensor will trigger immediately and sound the alarm siren without any delay. You would want to use this setting if you want the siren to go off immediately giving no time for anyone to turn off the alarm.Stay Arm Active: This is the Zone Attribute setting *recommended for PIR Motion Sensors*. This setting will make the sensor ACTIVE only when you arm the system by pressing *"Away"* (when you leave the house). The sensor will NOT be active when you arm the system by pressing "Home". This allows you to walk freely in the middle of the night to get a glass of water without triggering the motion sensors for example.Stay Arm Active (without Delay): Same as above except the sensor will trigger immediately and sound the alarm siren without any delay. You would want to use this setting if you want the siren to go off immediately giving no time for anyone to turn off the alarm. 24 Hours Active: This setting is used for when you want a specific sensor to be active at all times. the Alarm does not need to be armed to be active as it will ALWAYS be active.Doorbell: Doorbell mode is the setting you use when you want the Door / Window Sensor to act as a doorbell, so it would make a doorbell sound whenever the door is opened. This feature is great for businesses where you want a pleasant doorbell sound whenever  a customer walks in. This is especially useful if you are running a small business such as a convenient store and an employee is working alone, Where he or she may be in the back room or stocking behind shelves and cannot see the entrance.  This may also be a great feature for parents who want if their child has opened the door. Note: if you would like to have the door have both a doorbell and act as a sensor to trigger alarm when the alarm is armed, you will need 2 door sensors on the same door.
