Why Did My Alarm Notification Sound Change After the Smart Life App Update?
Tuya, the company behind the Smart Life app, has stated that their updates do not change notification sounds on Android phones. However, after a recent Smart Life app upgrade, some customers have reported that their alarm notifications now play a long 30-second system sound — something they haven’t experienced in years.
While Tuya does not directly change your custom sound settings, it's possible that the update triggered Android to reset or reassign the default notification sound for the Smart Life app. This is especially common when an app update changes how notifications are categorized or managed (for example, creating a new notification "catagory"). When that happens, Android may automatically assign a default system tone — often a 30-second alert — to that new channel, even if your previous settings were different.
If you’re experiencing this issue, the solution is to manually reset the notification sound for the Smart Life app in your Android settings. We’ll walk you through how to do that below.
STEP 1: Swipe down from the top of your phone to show the setting menu
STEP 2: Select phone settings (looks like a cog wheel on top right corner of your phone)
STEP 3: Then select 'Apps
STEP 4: Search for Smart Life and then select Smart Life
STEP 5: Then select notifications
STEP 6: Then select notification categories at the bottom.

STEP 7: Enable everything you see on the list.
If you would like to have a unique sound for the Alarm or Motion Detection Notifications on you phone, please follow these instructions
Step 8: For example we will change the notification sound for the 'Short Bell Notification' catagory.
Step 9: When the 'Short Bell Notification' menu opens, select 'Sound'
Step 10: A list of various sound options will be displayed. When you select a sound it will play a sample for you. Choose the best sound to notify you when a notification from you device is received. A sound that is noticable and plays for more than a few seconds.
Step 11: Do this for all of the other Notification catagories: 'Default Notification' 'Notification', 'Doorbell Notification', 'Long Bell Notification' ,'Alert Notification', Short Bell Notification and any others that require changing
Step 12: When you have completed the above steps, test your device to confirm that you are receiving notifications and that the custom notification sound you chose is what you are hearing.
