Why Aren't the Lights on My Floodlight Camera Turning On at Night?
First, read this article. The article will show you the typical set up for the floodlight camera.
If you have set up the camera as per the article above and the lights still do not turn on during the evening, please see the article below.
If your floodlight camera's lights aren't turning on at night, here's a possible reason:
Normally, your camera has infrared (IR) night vision. When it gets dark, the camera switches to night mode, and the live view turns black and white. When motion is detected, the floodlights turn on.
However, if there’s enough light around (like from streetlights), the camera may not think it’s dark enough to activate night mode. You'll notice this because the live view stays in color. In this case, the floodlights won’t turn on since the camera thinks it’s still light out.
To check if the camera still displays color at night, open you camera device on the Smart Life app. Open the menu and select 'Messages'.
When you select Messages, then select 'All'
Once you select 'All' Scroll to a time in the late evening. If the 'IR Night Vision' is set to auto, you should see a Black and White image.
If you see a color image and do not see a black and white image, then the surrounding lights, possibly street lights or sports field with bright lighting has tricked the floodlight camera into thinking that it is daylight out. If that is the case, then a late evening or early morning image/video would appear in color.
This is the reason why the motion lights are not turning on, check the live view late at night. If it's in color, that means there’s enough light around, and the camera isn’t triggering the floodlights.
To solve this we can create a scene that will force the floodlight camera lights to turn on when motion is detected.
