Siren Not Disarming When Installed Far from the Gen 2 Alarm Panel

If your siren sounds when an alarm is triggered but does not stop when you disarm the system, it may be installed too far from the Gen 2 alarm panel.

How the Siren Works

The siren receives wireless radio frequency (RF) commands from the alarm panel. Here is what happens when a sensor triggers an alarm:

1. A sensor detects activity, such as a door opening or motion being detected.

2. The sensor sends an RF signal to the alarm panel. If the system is armed and the sensor is set to trigger an alarm in that arming mode, the panel activates the alarm after any applicable entry delay.

3. The alarm panel sends an RF signal to the siren, instructing it to sound.

4. When you disarm the system, the alarm panel sends another RF signal to the siren, instructing it to stop.

If the panel shows that the system is disarmed but the siren continues sounding, the siren may not have received the command to stop. This can happen if it is too far from the alarm panel or if nearby interference or obstructions affect the signal.

Solution 1: Move the Siren Closer to the Alarm Panel

First, try moving the siren closer to the alarm panel, then test whether it sounds and stops correctly when you trigger and disarm the alarm.

If this resolves the issue, install the siren in a location closer to the panel.

Solution 2: Use an RF Repeater

If moving the siren closer is not practical, you will need an OSI RF Repeater for Gen 2 to follow the instructions below.

Pair the Alarm Panel with the Repeater

This allows the repeater to relay the panel’s siren commands.

1. Put the RF repeater into pairing mode.

2. On the Gen 2 alarm panel, select the Connections icon.

3. Select the Siren icon.

4. Select OK when the “Siren Pair” prompt appears. In this step, you are pairing the alarm panel with the repeater.

5. Check the repeater’s pairing indicator light to confirm that pairing was successful.

Test the Siren

After pairing, trigger an alarm and then disarm the system. Confirm that the siren sounds and stops correctly.

If your system is professionally monitored, arrange to have your account placed in Test Mode before triggering an alarm.

Our Test Results

We performed the following test with the alarm panel on the second floor:

1. Went outside, approximately 75 feet from the alarm panel.

2. Armed the system in Away mode using the app.

3. Triggered an entry sensor that was also approximately 75 feet from the panel and paired with the repeater.

4. Confirmed that the siren sounded.

5. Disarmed the system using the app and confirmed that the siren stopped.

This test confirmed successful operation in our setup. Results may vary depending on placement, walls, and other obstructions.
