Understanding Away Mode vs. Home Mode

The Gen 2 Alarm System allows you to arm your system in either Away mode or Home mode. Each mode determines which sensors will be active when the system is armed.

Default Sensor Modes

When sensors are paired with the alarm panel, they are assigned the following default arming modes:

How Away Mode Works

When the alarm panel is armed in Away mode:

• ✅ Door/Window Sensors are active.
• ✅ Motion Sensors are active.

Any triggered sensor will cause an alarm event.

This mode is recommended when everyone has left the home.

How Home Mode Works

When the alarm panel is armed in Home mode:

• ✅ Door/Window Sensors remain active.
• ❌ Motion Sensors are disabled by default.

This allows you to:

• Walk freely inside your home without triggering the alarm.
• Keep your doors and windows protected while you are home.
• Allow pets, such as dogs, to move around without setting off the alarm.

Home mode is ideal for nighttime use or when you are inside your home but still want perimeter protection.

Using Home Mode When Leaving Pets at Home

If you are leaving your home and want your pet to roam freely while keeping your doors and windows protected:

1. Leave the house.
2. Once outside, arm the system in Home mode using the Smart Life app.
   

This keeps the door and window sensors active while leaving the motion sensors inactive, allowing your pet to move freely without triggering the alarm.

Note: Motion sensors are paired as Away Only by default. Their arming mode can be changed if your security requirements differ.
