Troubleshooting a Wi-Fi Camera Not Getting Live Video Feed When Outside of Home

If you're having trouble connecting to your Wi-Fi camera's live video feed when you are outside of your home, you may be experiencing a common problem. This guide will help you troubleshoot the issue and get your Wi-Fi camera up and running again.

The first step is to make sure that your Camera has a strong internet connection.

  • Open Smart Life App
  • Select bullet camera device
  • Select Device Information.

What is the signal strength? 80% to 90% or higher should be great . If it is low then you may want to try these things out.

  • Place your camera in a position where it can get much higher signal strength.
  • Sometimes its just moving your camera a few inches or a foot one way or the other (closer towards your wifi router) or even moving your camera antenna (if it has one) to another position could increase signal strenth as some kind of disturbance may be blocking the wifi signal to your camera.
  • Or, you can get a wifi booster. Sometimes your internet provider may supply you with a free one if you say that your wifi is too weak in parts of your house. A Wi-Fi booster can make a massive difference to getting really good signal strength.
  • You can also try changing your Video feed quality from HD to SD so not demanding so much data transfer. On the Camera feed you will see the HD selected on the top left of the screen. Select the HD then choose SD.

NOTE: Even if you have a weak signal and are able to get a live feed when you are at home. once you leave the house you will have issues connecting to your camera. The Camera needs to have a strong signal strength to get live camera feed from your home as well as outside your home.

SO AN INTERNET SPEED TEST ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE

Now when you are away from your house you just need to make sure you have a strong signal on your mobile phone, so try doing an Internet Speed test.

you can go here https://fast.com/ . This will do a speed test right away on your phone.

As long as you are getting around 67Mbps you should be able to get a good feed from your camera (again, as long as the camera has a solid signal strength from your 2.4Ghz Wifi Network)

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the issue and get your Wi-Fi camera up and running again.
