This article will show you how to add custom notification sound files to the Smart Life App on a Google Pixel Phone.
(This was tested on a Google Pixel phone running Android 16. It may differ on other versions of Android)

Step 1.  Download your sound file from a site of your choosing.
We have provided some sample sounds that you can download here:
Click Here to Download --> Sample Alarm Notification Sounds

By default, it will usually be saved in the 'Files' folder under 'Storage'. Click on 'Files Storage', and then click on 'Audio'. There, you can confirm that you have successfully downloaded the sound file.

Step 2:  Move/Copy the sound file to your internal storage -> 'Notifications Folder'

a. Long press the downloaded sound file to select

b. Tap the three-dot sign for the selected sound file.  This will open another menu.

c.   You can select the 'Move To' option if you want to move it and remove it from the File Storage location, or you can select the 'Copy To' option if you want to move it and also leave it in the 'Files Storage' location for possible future use.

d.    Select either the Copy To or Move To option on that menu, and then move the sound file to the 'Notifications' folder.  This will enable you to select it for use in the SmartLife App.

Step 3:  Select the sound file for use.

a.     Under Settings (the gear icon) select…

1.     Notifications, then

2.     Select 'App Notifications', then

3.     Select 'SmartLife' , then

4.     Select 'Other'

5. Then select 'Show 'Unused Categories'

6.     Now select how you want to use that sound – 'Doorbell Notification', 'Long Bell Notification', 'Short Bell Notification', or 'Alert Notification'.
(See the 'Notifications Categories' chart at the bottom of this article for more information)

7.     Having selected one of the above options, tap 'Sound'.

8.     Under Sound, tap 'My Sounds'.  And there you will find the sound you want.

9.     Tap on that sound to select it, and then tap Save at the top right.

Alternative method to add/select the sound file direcly in the 'My Sounds' menu:

Select 'My Sounds'. At the bottom right of that screen there is a '+' sign.  Tap the '+' sign, and at the top left tap on the 'three-line' icon.  Select 'Audio', and you will be able to find your sound file under either 'Recent' - 'Audio' or 'Downloads'

Below are the notification categories that we have tested. These can be found in your phone’s app notification settings for the Smart Life app. Each category below shows the results when a specific notification category is triggered.

Testing Notification Sounds in the Smart Life App

Customers can download sample alarm sounds and test each notification category within the Smart Life app. This process helps ensure that any custom notification sounds you’re using play correctly and match the intended alert type.

After downloading, assign each sound to the appropriate Smart Life notification category,  test each notification and review the results (refer to the notification category chart above). This will help you confirm that the notification categories displayed on your phone correspond accurately with the test sounds provided in the links above.

Why Your Custom Notification Sound May Still Play the “Bubble” Sound

If you’ve set a custom sound for your Smart Life notifications but still hear the default “Bubble” tone, don’t worry — this is a common issue on Google Pixel phones.

Each Smart Life notification (for example, Alarm, Door Sensor, or Long Bell Notification) belongs to its own notification category.
Each category has its own sound setting, so changing one category does not automatically update the others.

This means that even if you’ve changed the sound in one category, the app might be triggering a different category that is still using the “Bubble” sound.

How to Fix It on a Google Pixel Phone

  1. Open your phone Settings.

  2. Go to Notifications → App settings → Smart Life.

  3. Tap Notifications under Smart Life.

  4. You’ll see several notification categories (such as Alarm Notification, Long Bell Notification, etc.).

  5. Tap on each one that you use and select your custom sound under the Sound option.

  6. Test the app again by triggering an alarm or event to confirm the new sound plays correctly.

This is why we uploaded the test souds for each category so you can test out the notification categories on you phone more thoroughly.

We hope this helps.

Tip:

If the sound still doesn’t change, double-check that your phone is not set to “Silent” or “Vibrate Only” mode, as this will prevent the sound from playing even if the custom tone is selected.
