How Gen 2 Communicates With the Monitoring Station

2 min. readlast update: 02.01.2026

For the Gen 2 professional monitoring option, the system uses cellular (SIM-based) communication only to report alarms to our Central Monitoring Station. It is not a dual-path system (Wi-Fi + cellular) for professional monitoring.

This design is intentional. Cellular communication is significantly more reliable than Wi-Fi for alarm signaling, particularly in apartment and condo environments where:

  • Wi-Fi routers can be unplugged or reset

  • Internet service outages are common

  • Power failures may disable home networking equipment

With professional monitoring enabled, the SIM card provided by us is the primary and sole communication path to the monitoring station.

That said, you can still connect the system to Wi-Fi for:

  • App control

  • System management

  • App notifications

However, Wi-Fi is not used for alarm signal transmission when professional monitoring is active.

Regarding your concern about cellular reception in Toronto: the SIM operates on major Canadian LTE networks, which generally provide strong coverage across the GTA, including most apartment buildings. While cellular signal quality can vary by building, LTE coverage in Toronto is typically very good.

If you’d like additional reassurance, we recommend:

  • Checking cellular signal strength in the building once you’ve selected an apartment

  • Verifying coverage with the carrier used for the monitoring SIM (we can provide details upon request)

Please let us know if you have any other questions—we’re happy to help you determine if the Gen 2 system is the right fit for your new apartment.

Regarding any concern about cellular reception: the monitoring SIM operates on major Canadian LTE networks, which generally provide strong and reliable coverage across Canada, including most urban and suburban apartment and condo buildings. As with any cellular service, signal quality can vary depending on the specific building construction and location.
