Gen 2 Panel Internet Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and 4G Explained

1 min. readlast update: 02.01.2026

The Gen 2 system uses Wi-Fi to connect and does not require a wired (plug-in) internet connection.

The system can function in the following ways:

  1. Standalone unit — not connected to Wi-Fi and not using a SIM card.

  2. Wi-Fi mode — connects to the Smart Life app, allowing you to control the system remotely and receive app notifications.

  3. SIM card for self-monitoring — you would purchase a SIM card and a talk/text plan from a recommended cellular provider.

  4. SIM card for professional monitoring — we provide the SIM card, and the system is professionally monitored by our CMS (Central Monitoring Station).

Note: The system can use Wi-Fi in combination with a SIM card for either self-monitoring or professional monitoring.

Regarding 4G:
4G/LTE is not being phased out in Canada in the next few years. What is being shut down is 2G and, in particular, 3G. 4G/LTE and 5G will remain the core networks for the foreseeable future.
