Gen 2 Alarm Accessories Information & Specifications: max distance, battery info & Installation

4 min. readlast update: 01.26.2024

What is the maximum distance alarm accessories can be away from the OSI Alarm Display (Gen 2):

  • Door-Window Sensor (Gen 2): 20m - 30m (65-98ft) in real home usage
  • PIR Motion Sensor (Gen 2): 20m - 30m (65-98ft) in real home usage, walls and large furniture will influence range.
  • Remote Control (Gen 2): 20m - 30m (65-98ft) in real home usage
  • Wireless Strobe Siren (Gen 2): 20 - 30m (65-98ft) in real home usage, walls and large furniture will influence range.

*Important* Walls or other barriers will affect the signal strength. A Concrete wall or metal cladding can greatly reduce the signal distance. If your sensors or magnets are mounted on a door or window (or door/window frame) that is metallic, this can interfere with the magnetic field of the magnet. In cold weather the metal frames of the patio doors or windows can also affect the transmission strength by weakening the battery. An RF signal repeater can solve sensor connection issues. What Radio Frequency are these accessories?

  • Encoder: eV1527
  • Radio frequency: 433 MHz

It also supports other brand accessories with 433MHz, ev1527 (for entry sensors from other brand please add it to “Accessories>>”+”>>General” from display)

How many Sensors (Motion Sensors/Contact Sensors/Wireless Sirens) can you add to the OSI Alarm System (Gen 2)?

  • Remote Controllers: 6
  • Wireless Strobe Sirens,Motion & Contact Sensors Detectors: 160 total - you can add as many of each of these as you would like, just as long as they all add up to 160 total.
  • Keypads: 6

What type of batteries do the accessories take?

  • Contact Sensor (for door/window) (Gen 2): 2 x 2450 3V Lithium Coin batteries
  •  PIR Motion Sensor (Gen 2): 2 x AA Batteries
  •  Remote Control (Gen 2): 1 x CR2032 Lithium Coin battery
  • Wireless Strobe Siren (Gen 2): 3.7V 500mAH Built-in Lithium Battery (Rechargable/built-in battery does not need replacing.)

What is the detection range for the PIR Motion Sensor (Gen 2)?

Detection Range 16 feet (5m). This is the distance that a person can be away from the motion detector before they are detected by the infrared sensor.

How do you replace the batteries in the Motion Sensor?

To replace the 2 x AA Batteries follow these steps (should last up to 1 year):

  1. Remove the Motion Sensor from the base that is affixed onto the wall by sliding it upwards.
  2. Once removed press and slide the back cover in a downwards position until the back cover is fully removed
  3. Remove the old AAA Batteries
  4. Insert the new AAA Batteries
  5. Slide the back cover back on by pressing the back cover and sliding it upwards
  6. Align the back of the motion sensor to the mount on the wall and sliding it upwards and adjust the position back to the proper angle.

How do you replace the battery in the Contact Sensor?

To replace the two 2450 3V Lithium Coin batteries follow these steps (should last between 3-5 years):

  1. Press and slide the larger side cover towards the direction of curved side of the contact sensor until it comes right off.
  2. Take out the old 2450 3V Coin batteries and insert the new 2450 3V Coin Batteries.
  3. Place the cover over the bottom piece which is affixed to the door and slide it towards the direction of the flat side of the contact sensor.

How do you replace the battery in the Remote Controller?

To replace the the one CR2032 Lithium Coin battery follow these steps (should last up to 1 year daily usage):

  1. Take the included Purple Pick which comes with the OSI Smart Alarm System (Gen 2) (in the same little plastic bag which the 8 zone wireharness, USB-C Cable, pack of screws and wall anchors came in) and pry inbetween the two halves of the remote until they come apart. You can also use a flat head screw driver (please do this gently).
  2. Take out the old CR2032 Lithium Coin battery and insert the new CR2032 Lithium Coin battery.
  3. Snap the two halves back in place

How long do OSI Alarm Sensor batteries last and is there an indication when they are low?

When the batteries are low on both the motion sensors and the contact sensors, the OSI Alarm Display will show a low battery warning on the display. You will also get a notification on your phone as well. Below is the approximate time that the batteries will last in the sensors with normal usage.

  • Contact sensors: 3-5 Years depending on amount of triggers
  • Motion sensors: 1 year
  • Remote Controllers: 1 year if used daily
  • Wireless Siren internal rechargable battery:  3-5 years
