External Keypad – Charging and Status Indicator Lights

The external keypad uses its status indicator light to show charging status, standby mode, and activity from the Proximity Sensor.

The information below explains what the different indicator lights mean and what you can expect during normal operation.

Charging the Keypad

When the charging cable is connected to the keypad:

Solid Red Light

  • Indicates that the keypad is charging.

  • During testing, the indicator remained solid red while the battery was charging.

Solid Green Light

  • Indicates that the battery has reached a full charge.

  • Charging time can vary. During our testing, the indicator changed from solid red to solid green after approximately 6 to 8 hours.

Important Note About the Charging Indicator

In some cases, the indicator may remain solid red even when the battery is already fully charged.

During our testing, a fully charged keypad was turned off and reconnected to the charger. The indicator turned solid red and remained red for approximately 8 hours, even though the battery had already been fully charged.

Therefore, if the indicator remains red for an extended period, this does not necessarily mean that the keypad or battery has failed to charge.

What Happens When the Keypad Is Turned On?

After disconnecting the charging cable and turning on a fully charged keypad:

  1. The status indicator may remain solid green for approximately 10 seconds.

  2. The solid green light will then turn off.

  3. The status indicator will begin flashing green approximately every 5 seconds.

The flashing green light indicates that the keypad is powered on and in Standby Mode.

Green Light Flashing Every 5 Seconds

A brief green flash approximately every 5 seconds is normal.

Flashing Green Every 5 Seconds = Standby Mode

This indicates that the keypad is powered on and operating normally while in standby.

Proximity Sensor Enabled

When the Proximity Sensor is enabled, the keypad can detect movement in front of it.

If movement is detected:

  • The status indicator changes from the flashing green standby light to solid green.

  • If the surrounding area is dark, the keypad will also light up automatically.

  • The keypad will remain illuminated while the Proximity Sensor detects activity.

  • Once movement is no longer detected, the keypad will return to Standby Mode.

  • The status indicator will then resume flashing green approximately every 5 seconds.

For example, if the keypad is installed in a dark hallway and someone walks past it, the Proximity Sensor can automatically activate the keypad lighting.

Proximity Sensor Disabled

When the Proximity Sensor is disabled, walking past or moving in front of the keypad will not activate it.

In this mode:

  • The status indicator will not change to solid green when someone walks past the keypad.

  • The keypad will not automatically light up when movement is detected.

  • The status indicator will continue flashing green approximately every 5 seconds while the keypad is in Standby Mode.

Solid Green Indicator status

  • The light will always turn a solid green when a button is pressed on the keypad and will turn off after 10 seconds if there is no more keyboard activity.

Quick Reference

Indicator / Behaviour Meaning
Solid Red while plugged in Charging
Solid Green while plugged in Fully charged
Solid Green after turning keypad on Normal startup/status indication
Green flash approximately every 5 seconds Standby Mode
Solid Green when movement is detected Proximity Sensor has detected activity
Keypad lights up in a dark area when movement is detected Normal operation when the Proximity Sensor is enabled

Please Note

If the charging indicator remains solid red for an extended period, this does not necessarily mean that the battery is not fully charged. Testing has shown that the indicator may sometimes remain red after reconnecting a keypad that already has a full charge.

If you are concerned that the keypad is not charging properly, disconnect it from the charger after it has had sufficient time to charge and monitor the keypad to confirm that the battery is holding its charge during normal use.
