Alexa cannot announce door openings directly from RF sensors connected to your alarm panel via the Smart Life app because the app treats the alarm panel as a single integrated device, not as a collection of individual sensors. Alexa can’t “see” those individual door sensors, so it doesn’t know when a specific one opens or closes.
Why This Happens
-
RF sensors (door/window, motion, etc.) communicate only with the alarm panel, not with the Smart Life app or Alexa directly.
-
The Smart Life → Alexa integration passes only panel-level states (e.g., “armed” or “disarmed”) — not sensor states.
Workarounds however it will not be integrate with the Gen 2 unless a 'Scene' is created (Possible Options)
1. Use Smart Life compatible Wi-Fi door sensors
If you would like Alexa to make announcements like “Front door opened”, they need:
-
Individual Wi-Fi door sensors that are added directly to the Smart Life app (not through the alarm panel).
-
These sensors will appear as separate devices in Smart Life → Alexa.
-
Then, in the Alexa app, create a routine:
-
When: Door sensor is “opened”
-
Alexa says: “Front door is open”
-
Works well — but requires separate sensors.
We will be testing this function in the beggining of November
