Receive alerts from specific sensors even when they are bypassed

Note: To receive the Open Door and Closed Door notifications see this article:
Receive a Notification When a Door or Window Opens or Closes

Overview

Some customers want certain doors—such as garage doors, side entry doors, or secure delivery drop-off areas—to send notifications when opened, without triggering the alarm when the system is armed.

Our alarm panel now supports this feature. It allows you to bypass a sensor so it will not activate the alarm, while still sending instant notifications to your smartphone each time the door opens or closes.

This is especially useful for:

  • Smart garages (e.g., sensor on garage overhead door)

  • Secure delivery inside your garage

  • A door that has a combo lock leading into the garage

  • General entry points you want monitored without alarming

How It Works

Normally, when a sensor is bypassed, it is completely ignored by the alarm system. With this new feature, the panel still monitors the sensor’s open/close status and sends push notifications—similar to "Chime Mode"—even when the system is armed.

This means:

  • The sensor won’t trigger the alarm

  • You will receive real-time alerts

  • The event is recorded in the app/device history

  • The sensor acts as an informational monitor rather than a security trigger

Example Use Case

A customer installed a sensor on his garage door and wanted to:

  • Arm his alarm system

  • Bypass the garage sensor to avoid false alarms

  • Still get a notification whenever the garage door opened or closed

With this feature, he can now enable the sensor in "Bypass + Notification" mode and receive alerts without affecting his armed system.

Why This Feature Was Added

We received multiple requests from customers and retired alarm technicians who wanted more flexibility in managing individual sensors.

By combining the existing bypass and notification functions, users gain:

  • More customization

  • Better situational awareness

  • A solution for non-security access points

  • No impact on the overall security of the system

Technical Notes

This feature does not compromise alarm security. Only the selected sensor is bypassed—other sensors will function normally based on the armed mode.

If a sensor is critical to security coverage, we recommend keeping it active during arming.
