Battery Fit Issue – Motion Sensor Not Powering On

We’ve observed that some third-party AA batteries, such as the Home Depot HDX brand, are very slightly longer and thicker than the original batteries included with our motion sensor. When these HDX batteries are installed:

  • The back cover becomes harder to slide on, due to the tighter fit.

  • The tamper switch may be pressed too tightly or misaligned as the cover is forced on.

  • This can prevent the motion sensor from turning on or operating correctly.

  • When the back cover is removed (relieving pressure on the tamper switch), the sensor functions normally.

Recommendation:

To avoid these issues:

  • Use standard AA batteries that closely match the size of the originals (e.g., name-brand options like Duracell or Energizer).

  • If using third-party batteries, ensure they do not exert extra pressure on the battery compartment or tamper switch.

If you encounter this problem, test the motion sensor without the cover first to confirm the issue lies with the fit. Avoid forcing the cover closed, as this may damage the tamper switch or internal contacts over time.

An alternative solution if you want to use the "thicker" batteries: Please see this video
