Unable to Access Playback While Motion Recording Is in Progress

Overview

For cameras that record footage to an SD card, there is a known and expected behavior that can affect access to playback and motion-event thumbnails.

Issue Description

When attempting to access previous footage—either by:

  • Tapping the Playback button, or

  • Opening MessagesAll, where motion-detection thumbnails are displayed

you may notice the following behavior:

  • Selecting one or more motion-event thumbnails causes the video timeline to jump back to the beginning of the day, or

  • Playback and thumbnail viewing become temporarily unavailable.

Cause

This occurs when the camera is actively recording a motion-detected event.

While the camera is recording and processing a motion event, it temporarily locks access to:

  • Playback via the timeline

  • Motion-event thumbnail videos

This is a limitation related to how the camera writes and processes video data on the SD card.

Resolution / Expected Behavior

Once motion activity has stopped and the camera has finished processing the recording, full access will be restored. At that point, you will be able to:

  • View the most recent motion-detected videos

  • Access past motion-event thumbnails

  • Use the playback timeline normally

Summary

  • ✔ This behavior is normal for SD-card-based recording

  • ✔ Playback and thumbnails are unavailable only while motion recording is in progress

  • ✔ Access returns automatically once recording and processing are complete
