Unable to Access Playback While Motion Recording Is in Progress
Overview
For cameras that record footage to an SD card, there is a known and expected behavior that can affect access to playback and motion-event thumbnails.
Issue Description
When attempting to access previous footage—either by:
-
Tapping the Playback button, or
-
Opening Messages → All, where motion-detection thumbnails are displayed
you may notice the following behavior:
-
Selecting one or more motion-event thumbnails causes the video timeline to jump back to the beginning of the day, or
-
Playback and thumbnail viewing become temporarily unavailable.
Cause
This occurs when the camera is actively recording a motion-detected event.
While the camera is recording and processing a motion event, it temporarily locks access to:
-
Playback via the timeline
-
Motion-event thumbnail videos
This is a limitation related to how the camera writes and processes video data on the SD card.
Resolution / Expected Behavior
Once motion activity has stopped and the camera has finished processing the recording, full access will be restored. At that point, you will be able to:
-
View the most recent motion-detected videos
-
Access past motion-event thumbnails
-
Use the playback timeline normally
Summary
-
✔ This behavior is normal for SD-card-based recording
-
✔ Playback and thumbnails are unavailable only while motion recording is in progress
-
✔ Access returns automatically once recording and processing are complete
