Is there a way to tell which sensor is which in the Menu→Parts→Detector list? Test with Doorbell Mode

6 min. readlast update: 10.17.2023

To help customers with setting up the OSI alarm system, the sensors are now automatically synced with the OSI Home Security Alarm System. Please follow the instructions below to determine which sensor matches with the sensor number on the alarm panel.

Update: A quicker way to determine which sensor is which:

On the Alarm Panel :

  1. Go to Main Menu > Menu > Parts > Detectior >
  2. Select the sensor number you want to test. Note down what the current Mode name is so you can change it back to the original name.
  3. Change the Mode to 'Doorbell' and select the check mark to save the settings.
  4. Turn on all of the sensors to determine which sensor activates the door bell sound when you test the sensors.
  5. PIR Motion Sensor: Wave your hand in front of the motion sensor to activate the red led motion sensor light and the door bell sound will be heard if it is the sensor number that you changed to doorbell.
  6. Door/Window sensor: Place the two parts of the sensors, the door/window sensor and Magnet together. Make sure that the two arrows on the side of the sensors are together. Then pull them apart, you will see the red led light turn on for a few seconds on the bigger sensor and the door bell sound will be heard if it is the sensor number that you changed to doorbell.
  7. Each time you determine which sensor is which on the alarm panel, we recommend noting down the sensor number and location of the sensor on a peice of paper or you can write the number on the side of the sensor.
  8. Remember to change the mode of the sensor back to its original name, either Out Arm Active or Stay Arm Active.

On the Smart Life App:

  1. Open the Smart Life App and choose the OSI Alarm System device.
  2. At the bottom of the screen select 'Accessories'
  3. Then select the 'Detector' Tab.
  4. Note that you may see Detector 0, Detector 1, Detector 2. You can change these names to whatever you want to that fits your setup.
  5. Select the sensor you want to test. Note down what the current Zone Attribute name is so you can change it back to the original name.
  6. Change the Zone Attribute to 'Doorbell' and select confirm to save the settings.
  7. Turn on all of the sensors to determine which sensor activates the door bell sound when you test the sensors.
  8. PIR Motion Sensor: Wave your hand in front of the motion sensor to activate the red led motion sensor light and the door bell sound will be heard if it is the sensor number that you changed to doorbell.
  10. Each time you determine which sensor is which on the alarm panel, we recommend noting down the sensor number and location of the sensor on a peice of paper or you can write the number on the side of the sensor.
  11. Remember to change the 'Zone Attribute' of the sensor back to its original name, either 'Out Arm Active' or 'Stay Arm Active'.

What do the different Zone Attributes mean?

An alternative way to tell which sensor is which:

undefined
  • Ensure that all sensors are turned off.
  • Press Disarm on the alarm panel to ensure that it has been reset.
  • Turn on one of the door sensors. Their are two parts to a door sensor (the sensor and magnet) the On/Off switch is on the back of the sensor.
undefined
  • Make sure that the two sensor parts are together. To test, pull the two sensor parts apart. It is better to hold the sensor parts in each hand. Avoid the black tamper switch on the back of the sensor, if pushed in, it will trigger the sensor.
  • When you pull the sensors parts apart, a red led light will turn on for a couple of seconds.
undefined
  • Now join the two sensor parts together, ensuring that the little arrows on each part is aligned with each other.
  • Now press 'Arm' on the alarm panel, wait for the exit delay count down, then trigger the sensor by pulling it apart. The alarm panel entry delay will count down, and the alarm panel will start alarming.
  • On the alarm panel, where the green shield is, (bottom row, second to the left), it will turn from green to red and will show the Zone # (sensor number) and Alarm name, ie: Door Alarm. You can then label the sensor and note it down so you know which one it is.

  • Now press 'Disarm' Alarm to turn it off and clear the alarming notification on the alarm panel.
  • Once you have tested the door sensor, turn the sensor off.
  • Turn on a PIR Motion sensor. The red led light may blink for about 30 seconds. When the blinking has stopped, wave your hand in front of the PIR sensor. You should see the led light turn on for a couple of seconds.

  • Now select 'Arm' on the alarm panel.
  • Wave you hand in front of the PIR sensor.
  • On the alarm panel, where the green shield is, bottom row, second to the left, it will turn from green to red and will show the Zone # (sensor number) and Alarm name, ie: Living Room Alarm. You can then label the sensor and note it down so you know which one it is.

Testing tips: For your test, if you need to temporarily turn off the siren, you can do so by selecting Menu → Settings → Switch → Siren (select white and grey squares) then the check mark. When you have completed your testing you can turn the Siren back on.

You can also shorten the Entry Delay and Exit Delay by selecting Menu → Settings → Delay → Exit Delay and enter the number of seconds. You can do the same for the Entry Delay setting.
