How to set up a 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz network on a Shaw Modem

If you are trying to connect your smart product to your Shaw 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi Network but you do not have a choice. This is most likely because you have the new Blue Curve Gateway Modem which has band steering.

Band Steering automatically connects your devices to the best available WiFi frequency in your home. In theory it should work but somtimes it will not work so you need to disable band steering and seperate networks to choose from (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz). You will need to name the two networks and create passwords for each (they can be the same password)

When you have made these changes and are connecting your smart product to your Wi-Fi Network, you will now be able to see the 2 different Networks to choose from 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz.

Band Steering is a feature released on many new Routers from other Big Network Providers such as Telus, Bell, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile for example.

We recommend doing a search on their site or just call your network provider and they can do this for you remotely!

Step 1: Open the "Shaw Home" app on your phone, and login with your Shaw account login credentials.

Step 2: Select 'View Network Details'

Step 5: Select 'WiFi Name' or 'WiFi Password' to change them. You can name your network 'your network name-2.4GHZ' to easily identify the 2.4 Ghz network.

Step 6: Once you're done, select Apply Changes, and you're all set!

Note: After making changes, you may need to choose your new network name or enter your new password on previously connected devices.
